Emeritus Professor I.M. Dharmadasa, a top-flight scientist in solar energy of global repute and former Head, Electronic Material and Sensors Group, Sheffield-Hallam University, UK and his team visited the NSF on 29 January 2024 and held discussions with Prof. Ranjith Senaratne, Chairman, NSF and delivered a talk on "Solar Villages" that he established in several remote areas of the country and showed how they contributed to wealth creation and improving the socio-economic status of people living in those areas. It was attended by senior academics and graduate students from universities, professionals, scientists and Director General and scientific staff of the NSF. His unique community development programme that started in 2008 has been funded by several philanthropists including Mr Gamini Jayasinghe and Helasarana Charities.
