NSF Research Scholar, Dr D. G. A. Ranjeewa, visited the NSF Director General, Dr Sepalika Sudasinghe and paid gratitude for the opportunity given to him by the NSF to successfully complete his MPhil and PhD. His research project, titled, “The behavior of male Asian elephant in different life stages in Udawalawa, Sri Lanka”, (NSF/SCH/2016/02), was funded through the NSF Research Scholarship Scheme in 2016 and Dr Ranjeewa completed his project successfully in 2021.
Dr Ranajeewa has carried out field work exceptionally in this study and has been able to deliver valuable findings and insights on behavior of male Asian elephant. Findings of this research study have already been communicated in many fora including in reputed journals. Findings are valuable and timely as it addresses a high priority national concern. This achievement is not only an achievement of the research scholar but also an achievement of the NSF as its research funding has delivered research outputs addressing real needs at ground level. Findings are useful for individuals/relevant stakeholder organizations and to the government as well in devising effective interventions towards resolving human-elephant conflict.
