The Director General of the National Science Foundation, Dr Sepalika Sudasinghe was the keynote speaker of the Annual Research Symposium of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo which was held on the 5th of November 2024 on the Theme the Innovation in Science and Technology for Sustainability.
In the key note speech, she highlighted that Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) play a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in targets that concern human well-being. Further she underlined the responsibility of researchers and associated workforce in the science and technology sector in providing impactful scientific research findings as it is critical in decision-making in addressing the wicked problems in the society. She also stated that co-creation is indispensable for addressing grand challenges as it amalgamates diverse stakeholders from various disciplines, regions, nations, and sectors to develop innovative solutions collaboratively.
